Gate Installation Perth

Timber, Colorbond, Sliding & Automated Gates — Hung Properly, Built to Last

A gate is where your property meets the world. It has to work every time, look right, and hold up to daily use for years. That means getting the construction, the hardware, and the hanging correct from the start.

The Australian Tradesman builds and hangs gates across Perth's inner and middle suburbs — timber and Colorbond pedestrian gates, double driveway gates, automated sliding gates, and repairs to sagging or failing existing gates.

We do gate-only jobs. You don't need a full fence project to get a gate replaced or fixed.

Timber & Wooden Gates

Warmth, character, and craftsmanship.

Timber gates are the natural companion to a timber fence. Whether it's a simple pedestrian gate or a wide double-drive entry, we build wooden gates using kiln-dried hardwood with mortise and tenon joinery — the same construction method that's kept gates solid for centuries.

We work with spotted gum, blackbutt, cedar, and treated pine depending on the application and budget. Hardwood gates take stain, paint, or oil beautifully and suit everything from period Victorian homes to contemporary rural properties.

Every gate is built to hang plumb and stay that way. We use quality stainless steel or galvanised hardware throughout, and we get the bracing right so the gate doesn't sag over time.

What's included

  • Hardwood and treated pine options
  • Custom profiles and heights
  • Mortise joinery for long-term stability
  • Stain, paint, or oil finish
  • Matching to existing fence profiles
  • Pedestrian and double driveway widths

Colorbond Gates

Low maintenance, long lasting, clean looking.

When you've got a Colorbond fence, a matching Colorbond gate is the practical and consistent choice. We fabricate steel gates in the full range of BlueScope Colorbond colours, with the same corrosion resistance and finish durability as the fence panels.

Colorbond gates are particularly suited to Perth's bayside suburbs, where the combination of sandy soil, salt air, and weather exposure makes a material that doesn't rot, rust, or require repainting worth the investment.

We offer pedestrian gates, single and double driveway gates, and sliding gate configurations — all in Colorbond. Gate posts are set in concrete to the same specification as fence posts, ensuring the whole installation holds up over time.

What's included

  • Full range of Colorbond colours
  • Pedestrian, single, and double drive widths
  • Corrosion-resistant for coastal conditions
  • No painting or staining required
  • Consistent with Colorbond fence runs
  • Automation-ready configurations

Sliding Gates

Maximum access, minimum space.

Where swing gates aren't practical — steep driveways, tight side passages, or high-traffic properties — sliding gates are the answer. We install both manual and automated sliding gate systems that operate smoothly and reliably.

Sliding gates run on a track system at ground level or are cantilevered (trackless) where a clean threshold is needed. Automated versions include motor drives with remote control, keypad entry, and intercom options depending on requirements.

We work with both timber-framed and steel-framed sliding gates, and can match the gate infill material to your existing fencing — whether that's Colorbond, timber paling, or a custom design.

What's included

  • Manual and automated options
  • Ground-track and cantilever systems
  • Remote, keypad, and intercom access
  • Timber or Colorbond infill options
  • Suits steep driveways and tight passages
  • Commercial and residential applications

Gate Hanging & Repairs

A gate that doesn't hang right isn't a gate.

Hanging a gate properly is a trade skill. Getting the post positions right, selecting the correct hinge spec for the gate weight, setting the correct swing clearance, and ensuring the latch engages cleanly — it all matters and it's all done incorrectly more often than it should be.

We hang new gates as part of fencing projects, but we also take on gate-only repairs and replacements where the existing fence is sound. If your gate is sagging, dragging, won't latch, or the post has moved — we can assess and fix it without a full fence replacement.

We also replace worn or corroded gate hardware — hinges, latches, drop bolts, and D-handles. Quality stainless steel or galvanised fittings are the right choice for Perth's conditions.

What's included

  • Correct hinge sizing for gate weight
  • Sagging gate correction and re-hanging
  • Latch, hinge, and hardware replacement
  • Post repair or replacement
  • Gate-only jobs welcome
  • Same-day assessment available

Gates Perth — Frequently Asked Questions

Can you just fix or rehang an existing gate without replacing the fence?

Yes. Gate-only work is something we do regularly. If the fence is sound and the issue is the gate itself — sagging, dragging, won't latch, post has moved — we can assess and fix it without touching the rest of the fence.

What's the difference between a cantilevered and track sliding gate?

A track-based sliding gate runs on a ground-level steel track. A cantilevered gate is counterbalanced and doesn't need a track — it floats clear of the ground, which is better for driveways where a threshold track would be a nuisance. Cantilevered systems cost more but are generally smoother and lower maintenance.

What timber species do you use for gates?

Spotted gum and blackbutt are our most commonly used hardwoods — both durable, attractive, and suitable for exterior use. Treated pine is used where budget is the priority. We advise on the right species based on the application and your existing fence.

What Colorbond colours are available for gates?

All standard BlueScope Colorbond colours are available, including the full Metallic range. We match to your existing fence or advise on complementary colours if you're starting fresh.

How do automated sliding gates work?

Automated sliding gates use a motor drive system connected to a rack or chain. They're operated via remote control, keypad, or intercom. We install, test, and commission the entire system including the safety reverse function that stops the gate if it encounters an obstruction.

How long does a gate installation take?

A standard single pedestrian or driveway gate installation typically takes half a day to a full day including post setting. Automated sliding gate systems take longer — usually a full day for the mechanical and electrical components. Concrete footings need 24–48 hours to cure before the gate is hung.
